Take 2022 Pantone Color-Very Peri into the Metaverse!

How AI texture helps designers to create trendy 3D fabrics?

Everyone who uses color in any commercial way uses Pantone. Their huge range of color charts are used by artists, graphic designers, interior decorators and fashion designers to choose the hue that works and, through each color’s code, easily communicate the exact shade they want to the team they work with.

Every year, the Pantone Color Institute predicts a color of the year. Their style scouts look at catwalk shows, art exhibitions, trends in gaming and the word on the street to forecast what color will resonate most in the coming year. Probably the most famous example of this was in 2016, with Pantone’s pick being their pastel pink 13-1520 Rose Quartz , along with a blue colour, 15 - 3919 Serenity. Their basis was the conversation on gender fluidity - baby blue and baby pink were knowing choices for this hot topic. Of the two, Rose Quartz felt just right, and ended up mutating very slightly to become closer to 13-1404 - Pale Dogwood.

Named after the Dogwood Rose, this shade is more universally known as Millennial Pink. The sophisticated, slightly greyish, stylishly muted tone of what is usually considered a fun, uncomplicated color captured the hearts of not just Millennials but most of the fashion and style world, and filtered down to every high street. It’s still a staple shade on sofas and clothing around the world.

The Color of 2022 - Very Peri

Usually Pantone’s prediction for its hero color comes from their existing range - but this year, it’s been specially created. Pantone’s color of the year 2022 is 17-3938 - Very Peri. Very Peri is a violet-blue shade which, the company says, is “a new Pantone colour whose courageous presence encourages personal inventiveness and creativity”. It is intended to reflect the emergence from the two difficult years that we have all just gone through, into a new future. It encompasses the traditional calming qualities of blue, but infused with a contemporary energy. It is designed to work equally well in the physical world and online, in the metaverse.

What is so exciting about the metaverse for fashion?

The metaverse combines the physical world with the digital.  It has expanded largely from the gaming world. As more and more of us have turned to the online universe for work, recreation and shopping, it has become increasingly sophisticated and presents a new world of possibilities. In the metaverse, you can take on another appearance if you like, or appear as someone resembling yourself. You can watch a gig, fashion show, or other entertainment, or buy clothes and other accessories.

A Korean perfume brand-Acqua di Parma, recently worked with a South Korean girl group-aespaa, launching its 3D campaign entering the Metaverse.

The majority of fashion shows were presented online during the pandemic out of necessity. The British Fashion Council organised Digital Fashion Week instead of London Fashion Week, and so did Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode, representing the Paris fashion industry, and Camera della Moda for Milan. The designers presented their visions in different formats, including filmed catwalk shows, short films, podcasts, photo diaries and even puppet shows, in the case of Moschino.

Some brands used digital 3D avatars, with either realistic-looking human models and audiences, more playful characters, or a mixture of both in the case of GDCS. These used digital technology to represent the designer’s fashion vision, with clothing that looked, moved, and had the texture of real fabric.

How can TG3D’s AI Texture technology help the fashion industry stay on trend?

Although many fashion shows have gone back to a live audience format, the metaverse and digital fashion is here to stay. TG3D Studio is one of the best places to explore creating and using digital avatars for fashion and digitally developing your latest collection to clothe them in. You can create your own 3D digital fabrics from existing physical samples, by uploading an image. AI texture is able to analyze the texture and color, and converts this into a fully digital fabric which can be used in 3D design. It moves and has the texture of the original. You can review and edit the fabric design as you wish, changing the color or other details.
